network cable tester using 2 pic18f4520

i need 1 pic that transmits and the other that receives, it tests straight-through and crossover cable and the test runs like this:
(first pic) on portD a pin sends 1 to the other pic's pin if that pin has 1
it increments to the other pin of the second pic then 1 is sended to second pin
of the first pic and so on,the same is if 0 is sended from the first pic.
Second case:
and if the other pic didn't receive 1 or 0 from the first pic it doesn't reply
in this operation there must be a timer that waits for the reply(0.25sec)
if it exceed this time then this pair is not working...
