I don't have any knowledge of this, but CCS may have had to let staff
go, due to the recession. That might explain the delays.

For an ICD-U40/CCSload problem that can't be resolved, one solution is
to switch to using MPLAB as the IDE (for CCS) and an ICD2 (or the new
ICD3) as the debugger/programmer. Microchip does have a larger tech
support staff than CCS.

I'm sure CCS doesn't like me saying this, but if there is no resolution to
your problem, then what I suggested above is a way to solve it.

I've dug around C18 and PIC-C is a quality compiler in my book.

This forum seems to be a buzz with activity... I surely hope people are contributing by purchasing compiler maintenance to keep the people at CCS working on this fabulous product.

Personally, I used MPLAB and the ICD2 and ICD3 and they are very nice. I got started that way because I figure if the IDE or programmer doesn't work, I can start with the guys who sell the chips. (This has worked well for me with Xilinx and their XST Compiler -- I tried using Lattice and they were a nightmare because they don't really own the compilers in their IDE)

CCS is a gem in that their compiler has proven (to me) to be much better supported than other vendors at a higher price. Funny how that works.
