TCP Server (ENC28J60 + PIC18F46K22) pings itself

I know there are many posts on ping stuff, but i need to ping myself (TCP server).
the reason is that sometimes and due to external conditions, the TCP server stops to respond. I need to be able to detect this fault and re-init ENC28j60.

If there are other suggestions than pinging itself... most welcome!
