Moving up to the Next size chip?
PostPosted: Sun Nov 04, 2018 8:31 pm     Reply with quote

Currently I'm working with the PIC18F46K42 and I see the program is growing so I'm considering moving up to PIC18F47K42 which has double ROM and RAM.

The pin out are the same and the compiler compiles the code. I hope the silicon behaves as well as the smaller chip.

Unless I missed it the data sheet does not indicate if the current drawn by the large chip will be more (at the same Vdd and Clk).

Any feedback of practical experience of moving up to the next size chip and if the current draw is much more and by how much ?

There is Table 44-2 for the '46 chip, and Table 44-3 for the '47 chip.

For example, looking at the gray lines for D100 in each table, it shows
that typical current is 770 ua for the '46 chip, and 825 ua for the larger '47.

Look on pages 742 and 743 for these tables.
