PostPosted: Mon Oct 13, 2014 1:01 pm     Reply with quote

I broke my PIC KIT 3, but im thinking about this ICD 3, while the pic kit 3 does the job, and is far cheaper, is there any advantages to the ICD 3?

i cant find any clear info about this...

Also, sorry for the TOPIC normally i wouldn't ask a NON programming question...

Just my 2cent. It looks like the ICD3 has timing problems and battle to program certain chips eg. dsPIC33EP128GMxxx, where the ICD-U64 has got no problem programming this chip. So far I only had problems with the one chip though.

FWIW, I use the ICDU64 with the CCS IDE across almost all PIC
platforms PIC16/18/24/30/33 with no significant issues so far.

hmmm.... have to ask WHY 'upgrade' unless there's a REAL reason to! If the PICKIT3 does everything you want at a price you're happy with, just buy another.
Often there's a steep learning curve to figure out the 'new' features of any device, OS, etc. and you can lose a LOT of time (and hair). I generally will NOT 'upgrade' unless there's a real good reason. Heck I'm still using XP,MPLAB8.63 and PCM 4.1xx..

Did you contact Microchip? They replaced my faulty ICD for free when it was 2 years old.

Asmallri, i broke it; i reverse the power on the pins by accident and blew the lot up :( not really covered lol... my own error, i was thinking tie ICD3 was a MUCH quick programming speeds. but its looking like there isn't one, i dont need debugging as i do most of my test code in regular GCC for the maths and complex stuff....... generally works out well Smile

Looks like a new PicKit 3 it is then :D

any news on the microchips manufacturing those super speedy chips?
