What is the advantage of using 'MCU' vs 'one program' ?

In terms of the resulting code, none. In fact if you use MCU's the resulting
code is always slightly less efficient than the single pass result.

Where it is used, is where you have companies wanting to have libraries
built by different teams, and keep the code for these 'secret' from the
other people (either so they can charge or for secrecy reasons).

The single pass compile does cost a little in extra time when building (but
I have always found this to be infinitesimal). That may just be because I
use fast computers....

I'm going from 30+ years of a compile>link>locate mindset so it's a bit different.
