USB Development Kit
PostPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2005 8:56 am     Reply with quote

Hello,

I have the USB Development Kit and PCWH 3.212. Demo board works great, but not having much luck duplicating the circuit on a breadboard.
I have 6 ea. USBN9603 and a 28 pin SOIC-Clip for testing the USB chip.

Running the HID Example on an PIC16F877A.

Ive duplicated the demo board circuit minus the signal generator and MAX232. Triple checked the connections, connected to USB on computer: RESULT: Windows detects the USB device but gives the USB Device Not Recognized message. I get a quick flash on the led connected to B3, then off.

The 24MHZ oscillator Im using could be the problem but I doubt it. Its a ESC CRYSTAL 24.000MHZ 20PF HC-49/US. Mine shows 24.0ESCH on top and demo board crystal shows 24.0ESCZnot sure the difference.

Im out of ideas.

Thanks a million.

Gary.

I think your crystal is OK, at least as far as frequency and resonance mode goes. You can give them a call at 913-782-7787 or 800-237-1041 and they can tell you exactly what the difference is between a package marked ESCH and ESCZ. Their web site is www.ecsxtal.com.

Working Now!!!
PostPosted: Sat Jan 15, 2005 6:51 am     Reply with quote

Update to anyone trying this now or in the future...

Got it working. The oscillator I was using works fine. How do I know? I removed the crystal off the demo board and pub mine on. Demo board worked.

Problem was bad connection from the SOIC adapter on one of the pins. I was afraid to check each pin using my multimeter "buzzer" since it sends in ~3 volts. I don't know any other way to varify the lead connections (please let me know if there's a better way).

I've now switched to using a SOIC to thru-hole adapter from Digikey (part number A321-ND). It comes pre-soldered and works amazingly well.
