PCM programmer... when you say
"The C18 stuff is definitely an abuse of the forum. Someone gets
a free compiler (for a while) from Microchip, and then he doesn't
like their forum, so he goes to a competitor's and uses it instead."
I hope that you dont say for the topic of this post, cause yolanda1 its programming with CCS, and like a CCS user i think she/he should have a support... shes using Microchip DLL of course... but CCS have a 18Fxx5x DLL ??? and this is real problem...
totally accord with Humberto, Im not sure, but this is a support forum isnt it??? if i were a student (that i am...), whats problem about asking for help?
Sorry if a 'simple' or 'stupid' question might perturb to you.... sorry for that all student that are learning, and they have the misfortune "to be born without knowing"
i think this is a forum with different levels of knowledge, and if you dont like reply offering your help... dont do it... but not fail to respect other people please.

Therein lies the problem. This isn't a support forum. This is a user forum, where people voluntarily participate, donating their time because they like helping people, and have the time to donate. Also, many hope that they will learn more than what they know, and enjoy the challenges involved in helping people solve unique problems. Some might even scan the forums as a type of market research. The term "support forum" implies that the participants owe you support. They don't.
There are things you can do to try to optimize this resourse. Nobody likes wasting their time trying to explain in text what is already very well described in books and any of a half dozen web-based tutorials. Always "RTFM" -- before -- posting a question. In addition, do the google search. Even better, use the search tool provided here to make sure the question hasn't been answered before. People always feel better about helping people who show that they've made the effort to help themselves first.
Next, be as descriptive as you can possibly be when you ask the question. Posting code, and saying "it doesn't work" is not descriptive. Take the time to write a sentence saying what you're trying to accomplish, what you've tried, and what the results were. In short, don't make the folks who are volunteering their efforts beg to find out what your problem is.
Last, if somebody says "this question is off topic", they often provide an idea about where you should look for help. Don't get all offended. More often than not, its true, at least to some extent.
Remember, everyone here is a volunteer. They are around just until they no longer want to be. If some of the main participants feel that something is going wrong, listen to what they have to say. Getting into a flame war will just chase folks away, and the next guy who needs help might not get it.

Yes Mark you don't, and yes you do help a lot... You just slip in uncalled-for snotty comments.
Maybe they are not snotty comments at all - maybe they are just terse answers...

Hi Everbody...
I think the first goal of this forum is share informations between people who interest of CCS C compiler. But people able to share some informations about Microchip's Pic hardware and software. This forum is not the squabble area couple of peaple. I like this forum and everybody has to be kind, tolerate against the people who has a question.
Have a nice day all. |

Nope

| Yep. If someone asks a question without fully explaining their problem and a short answer will suffice their question, then I will give it. I am not going to waste 10 mins typing out 2 or 3 paragraphs of an answer only to find out it doesn't help the person at all since he didn't fully explain his problem.
If you read what RJ wrote here, I feel the same way. |
