It's true that you supplied a sample code. But note that i wasn't using your codes at all. Secondly, i did not blindly take a program and chucked it into my project without understanding a single line. In case you didn't know, and by the looks of it you don't, i spent days analysing the program that i modified to try to understand it better. There were plenty of errors when i compiled the code the first dozen of times, and i had to change some lines bit by bit to see where i went wrong.

I don't really see what's the problem with asking. Just because this is a project doesn't mean i can't ask for advice or suggestions. Isn't that how we're supposed to learn? Or perhaps for you, we should just keep quiet when we don't know something? I've learnt a lot by doing this project, and even though i might not be at your level, i feel that it's definitely a stepping stone. Spoonfed? That might be your opinion but i couldn't disagree more. But feel free to think what you like.

Note: I did tell my lecturer that i was joining this forum to ask for advice and he gave me the go-ahead. He felt that it would be good learning from pros who have a better understanding on PICs and GPS modules. So don't feel sorry for yourself. I certainly don't.

Advice:
Don't come to conclusions without first checking the details. Just because things don't seem as they are doen't mean that they're definitely that way.

Please forgive us if we get a little annoyed with students from time to time. We get many of them here looking for a quick fix for something they know nothing about and furthermore, don't care anything about either.

If you joined this forum looking for guidance with the blessing of your instructor, then I have a big problem with your instructor. Your instructor's job is to educate, guide, and help you. It is a testament to his/her incompetence and indifference that you find yourself here.

Many of the regulars here earn their living by writing firmware for PICs. Personally, I like to help colleagues because I know that it will be reciprocated if I ever need help myself. They take time from their busy paying jobs to participate here for nothing. Try to understand if they find themselves doing your instructor's job without the benefit of your instructor's pay.

Seriously, your instructor is the issue. I know - I taught at the university level for 10 years. I never once left any student to their own devices - and I can't name any colleagues who ever did either.

Keep at the problem - search the forum - read - experiment. You'll get it done.

Thank you for taking the time to explain things to me. It has never been my intention to make a fuss here, as I have high regards for everyone in this forum. I take constructive criticisms in my stride, as i know i still have plenty to learn and am bound to make mistakes along the way. However, i don't take personal attacks kindly and will not shirk from retorting harshly.

It's true that i don't get much help from my supervisor, but i guess it's mainly because it is expected of us to figure things out ourselves. It is this reason that compelled me to join this forum as i thought i could get expert advice and suggestions here. I never expected to get a quick fix and the amount of time i put into testing is prove of that.

But thanks for your advice and encouragement, i'll certainly remember it.

Best regards
