Try recompling your program without the bootloader part
just your test code comment out anything to do with the bootloader
and see if you get the error

It must be a problem with the program space left for your bootloader

Have you tried it with the pre complied hex file and loader that i sent you?

i haven't got one for 18f4520 but have for 18f452 @ 4mhz & 20mhz

months later... same problem. What was the solution?

This thread describes the same problems I'm having, trying to get the ccs bootloader to work with a PIC16F883. I get the message "timeout while downloading". Using a scope, I see that nothing has been sent from the PC at all, it hasn't tried to communicate with the target device at all.

Please help!
