Covert a hex value to decimal value

The output of the LTC1298 sample programs give for example

Ch0: 2.500v = 8000h

this value must be 800h and i must be converted to dec.
How can i do this?

atoi() requires the string to start with '0x'.
strtol() seems like a better choice.

You don't want to convert the last character? Then just replace it with a 0 when passing to strtol() so it becomes the end-of-string marker.
