Why not just use the code protection fuses?. Superior to anything you are likely to generate on your own.
Remember you can set the chip to still allow a bootloader to operate, then add an encryption algorithm to this, and depending on how 'strong' this is, even people with your supplied code, to write the program, won't be able to tell what goes into the chip.
